A graduate of the Department of Philosophy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1979, Tao received his Master in 1981. A student of Mou Zongsan, he received his doctorate from The New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies in 1986. He has taught in Hong Kong Shue Yan University, The New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies, Lingnan University etc., and joined the Department of Philosophy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2001, where he teaches courses on Chinese Philosophy, Death and Eternity, Philosophy of Love, Philosophy and Life etc. His publication includes, , An Exploration of Thinking (開發精確的思考), Blind Spot in Thinking (思考的盲點), Unfamiliarity of Philosophy (哲學的陌生感), An Analysis of Zhuang Zi’s Theory of the Equality of All Things (莊子齊物論義理演析), The Search in Philosophy (哲學的追尋) Blind Spot in Love (愛的盲點).
