The Question of beings

When we talk about Steve McCurry in Venice, what are we talking about?

tags 分類: , , , 20 Nov 2015

Steve McCurry made his name in the 80s with the iconic Afghan Girl. One of the most recognisable photos in 20th century, Afghan Girl as a photographic portrait has achieved a memorable status equivalent to Vermeer’s Girl with Pearl Earring within the portrait genre.  From September 23-November 8, Steve McCurry is collaborating with Lavazza, the Italian coffee company, to show 62 …

From a tech log to a blog

tags 分類: , , , 19 Nov 2015

If you have visited The Infinite Nothing, you would probably notice that the whole exhibition space is composed by a number of audio/visual equipment. One of the daily duties of us as an exhibition attendant is to communicate with the technical supporting team in Hong Kong whenever there is a problem with the AV system, and try to fix it with their help and instructions. Afterwards, we would also need to write a tech log to record all the details and process.

Slip of the Tongue-窺探人們私密內心

Crazy Counting at Hong Kong Pavilion! (Round 2)

tags 分類: , , , 17 Jul 2015

Hello everyone! Here comes “Crazy Count” again! Last time we talk about the number of audience who would read carefully the curatorial statement before getting inside the exhibition. Most of them prefer to go in the pavilion directly. This time we try to look into something different. Let’s begin with a simple question again.   …

100 ways of seeing the exhibition

How do you usually see an exhibition? Carefully read the curatorial statement before laying your eyes upon any artwork? Or go straight into the galleries without letting anything interfere with your first impression? Try to make sense of every piece? Or only care about those that grab your attention? There can be a myriad of answers. I guess it …

Amongst “thousands” of exhibitions that are now being held during the period of Venice Biennale, you probably want to squeeze some time to visit the Venetian museum of one of the richest men in the world, François Pinault, who owns the high-end fashion house Gucci group. Seeing his collection as a competitor with Peggy Guggenheim …

A visit to the ancient Greece and Rome

tags 分類: , , , 28 May 2015

I can say Fondazione Prada is one of my favourite places to visit in Venice. Located in Ca’ Corner della Regina, formerly a palace of the Corner’s family, Fondazione Prada has used the place as its headquarter since 2011. I spent an afternoon there when I had my day off on Monday. Although the entrance …

Chasing light and shadows

In Tsang Kin-Wah’s video works, you can always see how he intricately uses the sound, light and space to transform the atmosphere of a particular site. Use of texts is also an important element in his works. For those who are familiar with Tsang Kin-Wah will know that he is very much inspired by Friedrich …

‘The whole work is mainly based on my reading and interpretation of Nietzsche’s philosophy and some religious ideas from Christianity, Buddhism and Taoism.’ – Tsang Kin-Wah.
