tags 分類: , , , 10 Jul 2015

Welcome to the Art Circus

I was never really happy with the word ‘art administrator’. It sounds so mundane, boring and uncreative. The fact is … sometimes it is indeed so! To maintain an exhibition, one often needs to count visitors, record room temperature, fill in forms, write reports, etc. And some days are duller than others. [Did all …

100 ways of seeing the exhibition

How do you usually see an exhibition? Carefully read the curatorial statement before laying your eyes upon any artwork? Or go straight into the galleries without letting anything interfere with your first impression? Try to make sense of every piece? Or only care about those that grab your attention? There can be a myriad of answers. I guess it …

Home of a tycoon’s contemporary art collections

Amongst “thousands” of exhibitions that are now being held during the period of Venice Biennale, you probably want to squeeze some time to visit the Venetian museum of one of the richest men in the world, François Pinault, who owns the high-end fashion house Gucci group. Seeing his collection as a competitor with Peggy Guggenheim …

Hiroshi Sugimoto Glass Tea House Mondrain  This has to be the most beautiful thing I have seen in Venice. Located on the island of San Girogio Maggiore, the Glass Tea House Mondrain is designed by Hiroshi Sugimoto, a Japanese photographer who also works on architectural projects. This work consists of two parts – a courtyard with a …

Oldie but Goodie

Almost all exhibitions in Venice are now showing art of current times – so one day I have decided to step out of contemporary art and step into Gallerie dell’ Accademia for some old-age beauty. Originally a gallery of an art academy, Gallerie dell’ Accademia is now a museum that houses pre-19th century Venetian art.  …
